BHA supports community projects in Eyemouth
Berwickshire Housing Association (BHA) is supporting projects in Eyemouth which will help tackle food poverty and also provide sports facilities to Eyemouth Primary School.
BHA provides funding to Splash for its new project derived from the pantry, which was set up at the start of the year to reduce food waste, provide groceries to protected or isolated people and fight against food poverty.
Splash aims to offer cooking and tasting sessions to users of the pantry service, where approximately 80% are BHA customers. Splash will liaise with Healthy Living Network (HLN), which will provide recipes based on the foods available in the pantry and Splash and volunteers will prepare the dishes for service users to taste and collect the recipes and ingredients used to cook at home.
Volunteers include BHA clients and youth, who in turn will develop new life skills, build confidence and support other members of their community, to highlight food waste issues and learn how to cook food. healthy meals on a very low budget.
BHA has also committed to fund Eyemouth Primary School trying to raise £ 1,000 to buy big gym equipment.
The school hosted a sponsored event related to the recent Tokyo Olympics. The students asked people to sponsor them to walk / run / jog the 5,719 miles from Eyemouth to Tokyo, which they are trying to achieve as a collective.
Dougie Paterson, Head of Community Initiatives at BHA said, âBHA is delighted to support Splash in its efforts to provide healthy food choices through its pantry and local volunteers. We also hope that our commitment to purchasing gymnastic equipment will help Eyemouth Primary School achieve its end goal and encourage others to support this wonderful cause.
