…Promises community involvement at store launch

Meanwhile, the world’s largest sports shoe supplier Nike opened its Nigerian flagship store at the Ikeja City Mall in Lagos last week.
The first Nike retail store was launched in the presence of media and sports personalities. The launch revealed that Nike had serious plans in Africa and particularly in Nigeria.
The Managing Director of Hudson Holdings which manages Nike, Kieran Murphy spoke about the store and its plans for Nigeria.
“This store is a statement of our seriousness in delivering the best product and from here we will catapult across Nigeria from a retail perspective and also to help the community. We’re going to be involved in a lot of activities, whether it’s at universities or at sporting events,” he told Tidesports.
“At the moment we are sponsoring the Nigerian Super Eagles and although we are not happy that they did not qualify for the World Cup, the Falcons have qualified which shows that women always come out on top. Nike is also tied to the basketball league.
“We are looking at many different avenues where we can get involved in various sporting activities in Nigeria. We can’t be everywhere at once, so we’ll be building over the next 5, 10, 15 years from now.
