The Melvins announce “The Five Legged Tour”

The Melvins, who set sail for “The Electric Roach Tour” on June 14, have announced the next wave of dates in what turns out to be a gargantuan list of 2022 shows, with “The Five Legged Tour” offering American fans 43 more opportunities to catch one of the founding band’s live performances.

Buzz Osborne says, “Across the country once again! There’s nothing like touring America in the fall. Everybody’s a winner!”

Not to be confused with the similarly-named band’s recent acoustic collection (Five Legged Dog), the electrified trek kicks off September 5 in San Francisco and culminates in a special release at The Halloween Freakout, a one-off, Los Angeles. based festival (more details to be announced soon). Tickets for the seven-plus-week tour go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. local time. We Are The Asteroid is open on all dates.

The Melvins have released two albums in 2021: Working With God, a newly recorded album featuring the band’s 1983 iteration (Osborne, Dale Crover and original drummer Mike Dillard), as well as a 36-song acoustic collection, Five Legged Dog. , which includes a career-spanning collection of songs, from 1987’s Gluey Porch Treatments to 2017’s A Walk With Love & Death.

The Melvins are one of the most influential bands in modern music. Formed in 1983 in Montesano, Washington, the band founded by vocalist/guitarist Buzz Osborne (with drummer Dale Crover joining the following year), have been credited with merging the worlds of punk rock and heavy music. , forming a new subgenus all its own. In the band’s nearly 40-year history, they’ve released over 30 original albums, numerous live albums, and far too many singles and rarities to count.

More recently, they released the 36-track acoustic collection Five Legged Dog, featuring reinterpretations of some of their heaviest songs as well as covers from their favorite artists. During their discography, they have teamed up with Jello Biafra, Mudhoney and Fantômas for individual releases and have toured the world several times.

In fact, the band had the misfortune of being in both Christchurch and Tokyo for their 2011 earthquakes. In 2012, the Melvins completed the “51 States in 51 Days” tour (50 states + DC) , which was chronicled in the film “Across The USA in 51 Days”. The current incarnation of the group is Osborne, Crover and Steven McDonald (Redd Kross/OFF!).

Previous lineups include a couple of Osborne and Crover with Big Business band members Jared Warren and Coady Willis, a quartet featuring the current trio plus Butthole Surfers’ Jeff Pinkus, as well as Melvins Lite, which pairs Osborne and Crover with Mr. Trevor Dunn of Bungle. Sometimes, if you’re very lucky, a version of The Melvins will open for The Melvins.
