The opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics was a joyous affair, and it ended with what Naomi Osaka called her “greatest athletic achievement”, as the four-time Grand Slam champion concluded the ceremony by becoming the last Olympic torchbearer from Japan, lighting up the cauldron.

Osaka became the first tennis player to light the Olympic cauldron and joined a legendary group that includes sports luminaries such as Muhammad Ali, Yuna Kim, Wayne Gretzky and Midori Ito.

“Without a doubt the greatest athletic achievement and honor I will ever have in my life,” Osaka then posted on Twitter, adding: “I have no words to describe the feelings I have in this moment, but I know that I am currently filled with gratitude and gratitude. ”

It was a special evening for sport, with tennis in the spotlight. Petra Kvitova, Jelena Ostapenko, Veronica Cepede Royg and Yen-Hsun Lu are all featured as their country’s flag bearers.
