WASP will tour the United States for the first time in a decade this fall as the group, led by guitarist and vocalist Blackie Lawless, celebrate their 40th anniversary with Armored Saint in tow for all 28 stops.
Formed in 1982, WASP appeared in the midst of Los Angeles’ scorching glam rock / metal scene and sparked a lot of controversy in its early days, notoriously throwing chunks of raw meat into the crowd. And then there was the whole buzzsaw fly that Lawless liked more.
The band’s sound then branched out and they dismissed the more shocking elements of their show on stage as the lyrical approach became more serious, especially on the more notable records. Headless Children (1989) and The Crimson Idol (1992), which moved away from the more dubious themes of the past.
Lawless temporarily separated the band for brief periods in the late ’80s and early’ 90s, but WASP has since remained active since 1995 amid numerous roster changes and its last outing. Golgotha in 2015.
Making an abundance of references to the WASP catalog, Lawless said of the upcoming tour: “For over 10 years we haven’t toured on American soil. But from October 29, 2022… we’re coming back. 10 years, I would like, 10 years I swore, 10 years that I would want to go back… To my native country… and be a Wild Child, a Love Machine, be Blind in Texas, On Your Knees and Headless. So join me and the band, and Very Special Guests Armored Saint, as we celebrate WASP’s 40th Anniversary Tour… Back in the US… Back to top. I’m going to scream, because I want to feed, because I want to bleed, because I want to be somebody. WASP 40th Anniversary Tour… Back to the United States… Back to the beginning.
Armored Saint frontman John Bush added, “Armored Saint is totally excited to be the special guest on the upcoming WASP 40th Anniversary Tour. This tour will bring us back to our fond memories of sharing the stage with WASP at the Troubadour in Hollywood where it all started in 1982. We are also delighted to play songs from our last record, Punch in the sky, since we haven’t done any shows since its release in 2020. Old schoolers, I’m waiting for you there! New students, we want you there! It’s going to be awesome !”
The tour runs from October 29 to December 9 and all dates can be viewed below. Guitar legend Michael Schenker will also be joining the trek for a few dates in early November, so check the listings carefully.
Tickets go on sale January 14 at 3 p.m. here.
